The Big Cover-up

When you purchase a new pool table, it will probably come with a table cover. The covers they come with are usually nothing more than dust covers. Dust covers are great for keeping the playing surface clean of things floating around in the air, like dust and animal hair. They are not heavy enough to protect the table from something sharp, like, say, cat claws. If you have cats, and those cats have access to your pool table when you are not actually playing, then an upgraded cover is a must.

A custom-made naugahyde cover will cost anywhere from $150 to $200 and, in my opinion, is well worth it. You will be offered your choice of colors so that you can match the cover to your table or to your room decor. A naugahyde cover is heavy enough to resist penetration by kitty's claws and sturdy enough to be wiped clean with a damp sponge.

Using the cover will quickly become habit once you appreciate the benefits. It is easily folded back and removed by one person, and two people--one on each side of the table--can remove or replace the cover in a matter of seconds.
